Correct we have HUGE problems in the USA people out of work and collecting Welfare and Unemployment checks.. It's my aunt that recieves over $800 a month in food stamps for 4 kids because she is a lazy ass and refuses to get a job. And you know why she has 4 kids?? Because she gets more... This country is strong because it fans itself out to the whole world taking care of people and keeping peace, I know those words sound way too simple but that's the easy way to state it. However, we do have many problems at here at home. Welfare is just one of them, the economy right now is my biggest concern, loosing my job and my house. Sure it's okay to consider downsizing, but when no one is buying you can't sell your 5 bedroom, 3 bath house. And sometimes it's hard to feed your own family, but there are always a few pennies in the couch cushion or under the seat of your car that you would never miss, usually not even enough to buy those two tacos for 99 cents, but put together with the pennies from millions of other people will work.

If I was to lose my job today there are plenty of resources that I can rely on to help me survive. If I was going hungry I could rely on a friend to feed me. Your example of the kid being hit by a car isn't accurate in this situation. It would be more like, someone else's kid got hit by a car and so did mine. Of course I would try to do what I CAN for the other kid, but my kid would be my #1 priority.
