Really I don't involve myself in most debates, but it makes me angry when people express ignorance and selfishness and don't bother to have any facts...  I would hate to be Jennifers neighbor....

Kallie  Anyone else want to shove their idiotic views about not helping Haiti down my throat?? Cause I am just getting fired up and ready to debate....

Oh and please come at me with something more original than "we should be helping our own", because that one is getting old, and quite frankly...it bores me.

Jack

Sorry but that is half the prob with this country. Spending to much time helping out other countries, when we have huge problems of our own. Sorry but its the cold hard truth.

Correct we have HUGE problems in the USA people out of work and collecting Welfare and Unemployment checks.. God forbid they have to downsize and move their family into a smaller place and give up the 5 bedroom 3 bath home and maybe have their kids share a room.. I agree HUGE problems with food here too "Americans are tossing out at least $75 billion in food each year, according to an extensive study that follows foods from farms through retailers and into the mouths and waste bins of consumers.

The eight-year study reveals that restaurants, convenience stores and most families could help their bottom lines if they just learned to buy, store and use food more wisely."

I can see how our gov needs to step in and STOP AMERICAN WASTE... But not to refuse to help people that have no choice http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2010/01/world/gallery.large.haiti-1/index.html THESE people canNOT dig in a trash for food cause there is none.. they canNOT downsize and find a smaller home to make ends meet cause there are no home they canNOT find a job cause they are too busy digging holes to bury dead people and looking for kids parents and grandparents buried in rubble... ... See More

Americans have problems and the biggest problem is people that refuse to help other people in the time of need but are the first to complain when someone steps up to help someone cause they think they are taking away from them...

Americans have $100,000 cars yeah cars who the fuck needs a car worth that... who needs a 10 million dollar home... American need help they need help understanding
that people are people no matter where they were born where they live what color they are....

I'm so glad you said that jack, because it give me the opportunity to ask you when the last time you donated locally was?? You know what the problem with this country is?? It's my aunt that recieves over $800 a month in food stamps for 4 kids because she is a lazy ass and refuses to get a job. And you know why she has 4 kids?? Because she gets more... See More money that way. Luckily for her she can rely on that money every month to feed her children. Haitians are just asking for a meal at this point. They have suffered a natural disaster. What happened to compassion. And as someone who donates locally on a regular basis, I don't think people who don't have any right to preach to me about where my hard earned money goes. I think the salvation army is bullshit, but I still donate. Because the kids don't choose their lives. Just like the thousands of children left roaming the streets of Haiti with no family and no food didn't choose this for their life either. If my $20 can put food in a childs stomach so he doesn't die tonight, then god damn it I'm gonna send it. I don't give a shit what country they are from.

There is fact in both sides. This country is strong because it fans itself out to the whole world taking care of people and keeping peace, I know those words sound way too simple but that's the easy way to state it. Personnally, I'd like to see the budget that was put together to come up with the $$ the government is sending. How can we send money ... See Morewe don't have? But, the US helping in Haiti goes without saying, it's just what we do.
However, we do have many problems at here at home. Welfare is just one of them, the economy right now is my biggest concern, loosing my job and my house. Sure it's okay to consider downsizing, but when no one is buying you can't sell your 5 bedroom, 3 bath house. And sometimes it's hard to feed your own family, but there are always a few pennies in the couch cushion or under the seat of your car that you would never miss, usually not even enough to buy those two tacos for 99 cents, but put together with the pennies from millions of other people will work.

Kallie

So let's send our couch change to them and get on with our lives. It would be no skin off any of our backs. And I'm sure we will still eat tonight. They are not asking for us to support them, just a little help. And they are not taking advantage either, but Americans sure do that to our own country.

all in all I dont think this is about the government helping.. this is about people helping people.. the gov does what it can here at home and around the world but people say they are proud to be American but they are the ones that sit back and collect welfare what they mean to say is they are thankful they were born here where our gov gives hand ... See Moreouts to people who dont want to work.. we have jobs here, but how many people with a degree want to pick fruit in the summer to make ends meet.. when it is much easier to stand in line for the free food or even fill out a couple papers and get food stamps... Proud to be American? I am ashamed of to be a part of the americans that are selfish and greedy but always have a hand out but never willing to help their neighbor...The people of Haiti need help, they are victims of a natural disaster... People as People should be ashamed to say we as people shouldn't help...

If something traumatic happened here, would other countries give 2 shits about us? No.... Did anyone come over to help the Katrina victims? No.... and it's still a mess over there. Do our soldiers and their families get enough money to live on or to make up for dying soldiers leaving spouses and children behind? Do families who have lost their jobs... See More because of the economic fall get support? True, we have it a lot better than other countries, we waste food, and tons of people take advantage of the welfare system. But what about the families that really do need help and aren't recieving it here in our country. What about our children being abused everyday in foster care or in unloving families. They get over looked so we can help Haiti... Some of the poorer countries we help are over populated and they KEEP having kids to suffer and die. I say, if we are going to help them w anything.... we help them stop having damn kids they can't take care of.

Jennifer before you look like a fool google... other countries did help out... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_response_to_Hurricane_Katrina

Okay, so I was wrong about that..... It doesn't make me look like any kind of fool to be wrong about something.

Jeannie

Well when you say other people didn't help or don't care you should have your facts first.. families of US soldier killed in war get 100,000 lump sum pay out and continued medical and education for the kids.. more than enough to get back on your feet.... Kids in foster care and in unloved homes, well what are you personally doing to solve that? ... See Moremaybe holding a sign that reads "right to life? or anti abortion?" Amen on stop having kids you cant take care of... do you know the US gov spends over 91.3 billion a year on welfare that isnt counting what the individual states pay out on top of that... People in the US waste food waste water waste gas and other natural resourses and what hold their hands out wanting more given to them...
What are you doing to help here in the US?

Kallie

Jennifer you are right. People shouldn't keep havin babies when they can't afford to take care of them. But that is also the same with Americans. If I was to lose my job today there are plenty of resources that I can rely on to help me survive. If I was going hungry I could rely on a friend to feed me. Haitians don't have those resources right now ... See Moreand can't even ask a friend for a meal. Cause they don't have it. Let's just look at the unfortunate situation at hand and not take it out on the children that had no say in the matter. If you don't want to help or can't help then that's ok. But don't degrade others for their generosity and willingness to help others.

Jennifer

I never denied we are wasteful selfish assholes here in the united states. That still doesn't mean our country has everything it needs for everyone who lives in it. Obviously, it means we need more work.

Why would I hold an "right to life" sign if children who have already been born are being mistreated? I'd rather have them never been born, than ... See Moreto grow up being abused.

Kallie, I don't degrade, people for helping. I'm upset the government and media are making Haiti their #1 priority. I think we should help them w the red cross and what not. But there is only so much we CAN do. It's just like the whole Iraq thing... We went to help, but now it's turned into our concern. It's NOT our concern, we shouldn't even still be there. I just think, we could help these other countries, then move on to our own needs.

Jennifer if I give you a dollar to feed your kid and you throw it away or buy a beer... should I give you another dollar to feed your kid? So lets just say yes I should... So now I have given you two dollars and you have wasted both of them.. should I give you another dollar? lets just say yes I should... that is what the US does daily with so ... See Moremany americians .. The gov tries to help but at some point these people have to help themselves.. No one in the US should be on welfare for 18+ years.. but they are...
And most of this topic wasnt really about the gov sending money over there Kallie brought this from another post about PEOPLE helping over there... and if we turn our backs on PEOPLE no matter where they are or where they are from.. what kind of People are we?
So lets just say you are going for a walk with your kids, suddenly you hear a scream, a kid just got hit by a car and is laying in the street.. you turn look your kids are fine and with you... the car that hits the other kid drives off... you see the kid in the street laying there full of blood and keep walking.. it aint my kid I refuse to help I only help my own???

Jennifer

Yes, the welfare system is jacked, I just said that up there.... There are tons of people who take advantage of it, and I think that's wrong, and it should be harder to get welfare. What Kallie said about, if she were to lose her job tomorrow, there would be resources to help, but in Haiti they don't have that opportunity. Is a better way of ... See Moreputting it.

Your example of the kid being hit by a car isn't accurate in this situation. It would be more like, someone else's kid got hit by a car and so did mine. Of course I would try to do what I CAN for the other kid, but my kid would be my #1 priority.

Jeannie

no both are not hit by cars, you are safe have a home, a job, food and health... in Haiti they do not have that.... if you were in the middle of a earthquake or suffering then it would be equal and yes help your family... but MOST people in the US are not suffering like the people of Haiti....

ok, ok.. kallie and jeannie, you guys are AWESOME! totally love you guys, you are right.. we are PEOPLE and it is our moral duty to help ALL humankind, it doesn't matter that they are not "our" kind, they are human beings! do they not deserve to be treated as such?? jeannie, your last comment gave me chills.. you are amazing and genius!

Kallie read mikes post to this whole thing..http://i.imgur.com/Ai3zz.png he says it much better then we can.... I wish people would gather FACTS before running their mouth or typing BS that we don't help our own, or no one helps us in time of need.... This is a TRAGIC event and SHAME ON ANYONE who would make statements against helping ANYONE in a time of need....

Its not an opinion it is a FACT when you say NO ONE HELPED that is NOT an opinion THAT is ignorant to the FACTS other people did help.. an opinion would be "umm I don't like the cake I think there is too much salt in it"

Bringing up over and over and over.... the fact that I was wrong and should have looked it up, doesn't make your point any stronger.... So give it up and move on to a new one...... My OPINION stands strong... it is a tragic event, yes, we should help.... but no, we should not make it a #1 priority when we have our own worries, (even though not as ... See Moresevere.) We butt into to too many situations that don't involve us. It's time to put ourselves #1 and fix our oun coiuntry before we can help others appropriately. The End

Good job Jennifer! You are right you were wrong with your facts but YOUR opinion is strong.. HOPEFULLY you remember YOUR opinion should something tragic ever happen to you or yours... Hopefully those around you don't share YOUR opinion as “your” child lays next to you near death gushing blood while they are busy tending to the scratch on their own child.

When 150,000 people die, and the survivors are not able to help themselves (because they were UNLUCKY enough to be born under the banner of a shitty government) its not about us or them. It's about people.

If you die in America because of starvation its because you were too fucking lazy to fill out the paperwork for food stamps.
If you die of Hunger in Haiti its because every resource for food is gone. Everything is destroyed - even if they had an office to sign up for food stamps it is now destroyed.
Even if you are dirt poor America, Hospitals can not turn you down. Mindless junkies with infected arms can get treatment, people who purposely throw their lives away can walk in and get help. In Haiti the hospitals are destroyed.

If you clicked the link above you will see some mind numbing stats: http://imgur.com/Ai3zz - I really suggest clicking it.

Katrina killed 1,836 people
Hiroshima Bomb killed about 70,000.
150,000 - That is no fucking joke, the help can not come fast enough.

These people did not ask to be stuck at the bottom of the rubble, they did not ask to have their children starve, it matters not what their government is capable of doing for them, or what our government is capable of doing for us. It matters what people are capable of doing for other people.

I already donated $20, and I'm going to donate another $5 on behalf of Jennifer, just in case God isn't American.
